CPAP cleaning has never been a favorite chore for those to whom I have provided machines over the years, however it is clearly the second most important part of using CPAP therapy for OSA Sleep Apnea. The most important factor for CPAP sleep therapy is compliance, I mean, you have to actually put the mask on and use your CPAP every night in order for it to improve your apnea. So, compliance with CPAP is an entirely separate blog post for future reference, and I have a lot of great ideas in that area which have been proven to work well.

Cleaning your CPAP, hose, mask, and water reservoir is crucial to healthy long term use of CPAP. First, I will explain why, and later down this post, I’ll share with you how to get those dirty bugs out of your system.

CPAP bacteria and mold LOVE this environment which is dark, wet, and warm.

WHY?????

Why should I clean my CPAP? : Most users of CPAP are instructed by their provider to keep the equipment clean at the time of the original set up, however these instructions have been known to be ignored by the CPAP users more than a few times. Mold, bacteria, and other germs, and bugs love three things more than anything else. These are 1 warmth, 2 moisture, and 3 darkness. This is exactly the environment offered by your CPAP machine. Not cleaning your CPAP is basically sending an invitation to germs:

“Hello germs, we are having a party in the CPAP, and all are invited!”

Understanding that this environment is adored by the germs goes a long way toward cleaning inspiration. The more mold, bacteria, and other germs are present, the greater opportunity they have to infect your airway. This may manifest itself as a simple cold, sinus infection, or possibly even a full-blown respiratory tract infection.

HOW????

Different CPAP providers may share a slightly different variation of the CPAP cleaning process. If you are told something different I recommend that you follow their advice.

Start by keeping it cleaner by using “distilled” water ONLY. No minerals means no evaporation film deposit which bacteria love as well.

Daily clean the CPAP mask or other interface with soapy water, rinse thoroughly with water and air dry. (Dawn dish detergent is great as it rinses easily)

Once to twice per week, wash the water CPAP water reservoir, hose, and mask with soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and air dry.

Occasionally, if you suspect it is needed, mix a big bowl with 1 part white vinegar, and 3 parts water solution. Place the CPAP mask, hose and water reservoir into the solution for approximately 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water and air dry.

SOClean 2 revolutionizes the CPAP experience, making keeping your CPAP cleaning easier and more effective.

Another option to save time:

The SoClean 2 is a CPAP cleaning machine which allows user to clean their CPAP mask, hose, water reservoir, and even the water inside the reservoir automatically. No water needed. No fluids at all. This machine cleans it all by producing, and pumping ozone through the system when you aren’t using it. Each morning, you simply wake up, place the mask in the machine (leaving it completely assembled and attached to the hose), and the CPAP cleaning machine does the rest. Mold, bacteria and other germs cannot survive the ozone environment. Your system is 99.9% germ free every single day. This is a great solution. The units are not covered by insurance yet the cost is a reasonably good value considering the peace of mind and time-saving aspect.

EquaGel Seat Cushion For Wheelchair [Also Great For Office Chair And Trucker Seat]

EquaGel Seat Cushion For Wheelchair [Also Great For Office Chair And Trucker Seat]

We have discovered the most amazing seat cushions ever! Perfect for wheelchairs, office chairs, or even for truckers on long hauls!! The EquaGel Seat cushions are made of a polymer material that is state of the art, and in addition it is designed with a unique concept called “column buckling” that works so well, there is now way to ever bottom out regardless of one’s weight.

Get 10% Off Today!!

The problem with most seat cushions is that they bottom out and cause pressure in the area where the bottoming out occurs. This increase in pressure reduces blood flow and may cause irritation or worse conditions in the skin in that area. The EquaGel has solved this problem completely and we are super excited to share this with you!

Watch this video for a quick demonstration of just how this is possible:

What is EquaGel®?

EquaGel® is a dry-polymer gel, almost rubbery. It is not a liquid. This gel has unbelievable tensile and compression strength.

How does it work?

One of its most amazing features is referred to as column buckling. Simply put, each wall of gel is capable of supporting only a marginal load. When that threshold is exceeded, the wall buckles under and passes the weight to the surrounding walls for support. This “buckling and weight-passing” happens instantly and repeatedly until the maximum surface area of pressing weight is evenly supported by sufficient walls to hold the weight up, regardless of its shape. Applied to seat cushions, the pressure points of the ischium and coccyx are allowed to buckle into the cushion without resistance while the buttocks are supported evenly. The areas most likely to develop pressure sores are allowed to float nearly pressure-free within the pad while the client’s weight is distributed evenly across the top of the cushion. Regardless of weight, one does not “Hit Bottom” on an EquaGel® cushion.

What are the advantages of EquaGel® over traditional technologies?

Traditional cushioning technologies compress under a weight load. As a load compacts a foam cushion, the foam will bottom out under the heavier and pointier parts of the body causing pressure and ischemia and putting a client at risk of developing an ulcer. The harder a foam is compressed, the harder it pushes back – the higher the pressure and greater the risk of developing a sore. This compression strategy ultimately is attempting only to slow the development of pressure sores rather than eliminating their formation. Tempur-foams, while also exacerbating heat issues, are a prime example of attempting to slow pressure wound development rather than eliminating it.

Adjustable air systems ultimately follow the same model as foam cushions. Once a weight is pressing onto an air chamber and the air as displaced outward to the limits of the air chamber, compression and pushing-back takes place. Adjusting the chamber with more or less to air doesn’t eliminate compression; it masks it the same as substituting harder or softer foams would. This is also true with liquid bladders, displacing air or liquid to the capacity of a chamber results in compression.

EquaGel®, through the patented process of column buckling, allows pressure points at the ischium and coccyx to free-float down in the cushion while the weight is evenly distributed across the entire contact surface of the client. One does not “Hit Bottom” on an EquaGel® cushion.

Do EquaGel® cushions protect against pressure wounds?

Medical science does not have all the answers as to why someone may develop a pressure wound. But they all agree that at the point that a wound occurs, there are typically three factors involved: Pressure, Heat and Moisture.

Because of the open-cell design of the EquaGel®, there is air-flow under the butt. As such, there is no heat build-up like occurs with other cushioning products. EquaGel® cushions maintain a temperature neutral environment. By controlling the heat build-up, EquaGel® also reduces or eliminates the possibility of moisture (perspiration) development. With that EquaGel® cushions significantly reduce or even eliminate the three factors commonly present in the development of pressure wounds – Pressure, Heat & Moisture. If a client already has existing pressure wounds, they will find healing of those wounds to progress much faster than on any other cushioning products.

How do EquaGel® cushions hold up to incontinency concerns?

Extremely well! EquaGel® is non-allergenic and can be washed simply by spraying the gel with water. For further sanitation treatments, soaps and disinfectants do not harm the gel. All EquaGel® include high quality covers that are breathable, stretchable and moisture resistant. The covers also meet California flame resistance standards. The covers are easily washable.

Are EquaGel® expensive?

Marketing Concepts, working with EquaPressure, the manufacturer of EquaGel®, strives to maintain a reasonable price point for all the EquaGel? cushions. If compared to the price point of a foam cushion, EquaGel® is more expensive. However, if compared to the fact that the foam cushion will have lost all it?s resilience in 6-months and have to be replaced, then the EquaGel® is the better investment. Many of the EquaGel® sold to nursing homes over 5 years ago are still in regular service. The cushions as well as the covers carry a manufacturer?s warranty of 18 months.

How A Fingertip Pulse Oximeter Reads Oxygen Saturation {Step By Step How To}

This oximeter is comfortable, lightweight and may be easily carried with you wherever you go. The display is large and well lighted for easy viewing. from wikipedia:

Blood circulation: Red = oxygenated (arteries), Blue = deoxygenated (veins)

Oxygen saturation is the fraction of oxygen-saturated hemoglobin relative to total hemoglobin (unsaturated + saturated) in the blood. The human body requires and regulates a very precise and specific balance of oxygen in the blood. Normal blood oxygen levels in humans are considered 95–100 percent. If the level is below 90 percent, it is considered low resulting in hypoxemia.[1]Blood oxygen levels below 80 percent may compromise organ function, such as the brain and heart, and should be promptly addressed. Continued low oxygen levels may lead to respiratory or cardiac arrest. Oxygen therapy may be used to assist in raising blood oxygen levels. Oxygenation occurs when oxygen molecules (O2) enter the tissues of the body. For example, blood is oxygenated in the lungs, where oxygen molecules travel from the air and into the blood. Oxygenation is commonly used to refer to medical oxygen saturation.
